I've got a new tig, and needed some practice and a friend wanted a 20lt aluminium tank for the intercooler water sprayer in his rally car.For my first 'real' project, I'm fairly happy. I've got to work on my consistancy, but I'm 99% sure it will hold water.I've still got to build up some feet to mount it and brackets to hold the water pumps, but that's tomorrows job.
Reply:Looks good.. Put a quart of acetone in it and slosh it over all the welds..If one is bad you'll find it quick and fixing it will be way easier than if there's water used for testing.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Not bad, not bad. Did you fuse it or add filler? Where do you race ralley cars?John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Looks pretty darn good to me! I'd say just watch those pickups/restarts, as that's where the only "dips" I can see come from, and you'll be making some VERY nice pieces!

Reply:Thanks guys. I had to use filler, my cutting skills aren't that flash. I used a circular saw for most of the cuts.I thought I'd put my location in my profile (I have now), another Australian here.
Reply:Nice tank I build fuel tanks for some guys of a vary similar design. I just use 1/8 sheet steel and a mig welder. But a tig would be much nicer. But once agin vary nice work. Attached Imagesmillermatic 210syncrowave 180 SDhypertherm 380craftsman buzzboxclarke drill press/bandsaw
Reply:Are they water tanks? If so, how do you treat them to avoid rust?
Reply:verry nice jobmicrozone its always best to use filler with aluminum. the makeup of the aluminum is alterd when heated as the silcone/magneaseum gets burned off in the melting process, so it generaly dose not fuse weld strong. the filler is higher in silicone or magneaseum depending on if its a 4xxx series or 5xxx so it adds extra to cover the melting off process wile welding. ben Wyes water, aluminium tank. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time. |
