I am starting a little welding gig on the side. Something to relieve a little stress after work, maybe make a little extra money, but most definitely just getting my welding thing off. Its hard to shake off the welding bug once you attain a certain level of expertise. Know matter how long you been away. I've attached a few photo's of my shop's beginning. Attached Images

Reply:It's all in the garage, except the air compressor. I'm building a enclosure for it now, I'll be done with it tomorrow, and then Sunday hope to get a little of the wiring done to it. Then next week hopefully I will have air. Truthfully I'm physched to get started. I added a miller 250 Syncrowave with pulser, and sequencer, millermatic 210 w/spool gun, hypertherm 600, ingersoll 7.5 hp 80 gal, 7 x 12 bandsaw, 20" drill press and a few other things I feel are kinda essential. This ought of get me a start.
Reply:Hello good luck on your endeavors! I think it was prudent of you to buy the equipment to fill your shop first.By the way what kind of disk sander is that & where did you get it I'm in need of 1!
Reply:Welcome, nice equipment in the metal area. Dluvly - you can get those from Grainger or any other tool store that carries them.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:DLUVLY, I bought the combo sander from a local welding store. Its a Wilton brand, 1 Hp. It set me back $700. Wish I could afford the 1.5 HP version ($1600) they move a lot more material faster. But the 1 HP is still a time saver versus other means.
Reply:Grainger has that belt sander and more, check these: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg...elt+Sanders%2CI have one of the Dayton units and can't be happier...well, maybe if it dispensed beer.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Yea--I want one of those sanders too!! Nice shop--looks lie there is not much you will not be able to do.
Reply:I hope you have better luck with your wilton belt sander than we did here at the shop. It lasted about a year before it had to be bump started, it wasn't long after that it wouldn't start at all.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Did they ever fix the motor? Sounds like a capacitor going out. You never know with electric motors. And personally I'm not that familiar with reliable brand names for motors, excecpt maybe Dayton? I'll be putting it through it's trials shortly. Let you know. Thanks.

Reply:Nice shop jtrapper. It looks like you're off to a good start! I have a Hypertherm 1000 that I need to hook up. Are you using a plug or are you going to hard wire it into the panel? I am looking for a 100 amp Amphenol plug to match all of the outlets in my shop.Last edited by Carl26; 04-22-2007 at 11:41 PM.Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 Stick Linde HDA-300 MillerMatic DVI MIG Miller Dynasty 200DX Hypertherm Powermax 1000
Reply:I like the outside shed for the compressor. Was that built from mild or aluminum? Tough to tell from the pic. Then the outside is just covered in plain pole barn metal, correct? Very nice!John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:trapper how is you shead getting ventalation in the hot humid florida heat?
Reply:Had to use a 100 amp disconnect and wire it to a plug-in receptacle. The frame on the shed is 1" x 1" x 1/8" (200')galvanized angle iron , with 5V crimp sheet metal screwed to it. I used 2" styrofoam to line the inside with. Then used expanding foam to fill the gaps. Once it hardened I was able to cut the knarly stuff off flush with the styrofoam. I first used silicone to attach the frame to the side of the house, and then tapconned it to the slab and house. I dont use the air with the doors shut. The main reason for the shed is to prevent the compressor from rusting out. Florida has moisture as a problem too. And thanks for the kudos, now its off to the races.
