Any advice on a good auto dark for tig?  my jackson adf flashes me and i have adjusted it seven ways to sunday.  i now am using my trusty ol pipeliner but don't miss the sore neck  been told that the new lincoln is good and so is the 3m.  feedback would be appreciated.
Reply:I have 2 of the Northern Tool cheap adjustable auto helmets. I believe I paid about 60 for each one. Had a $120 lincoln that didn't work nearly as well. Never had one of the multi-hundred dollar helmets so can't comment on them. but did have an ebay special that sucked.
Reply:Maybe you should look into the Miller Digital Elite with its X-mode function, which should allow to do low amp tig with out worring about blocking any sensors.
Reply:the speedglas 9002x works great for me, for yearsUA Local 598

Reply:My choice is from the Harbor, have three ,first one at least 3 yrs old still works good, why pay for the name.   Sometimes on sale for $49.00 Also their powder coat system works good to for$69.00 Just having fun one weld at a time  Jim
Reply:Gremlin,      You must drive a Yugo.
Reply:Never thought I would but I bought my first ADF last week. Speedglas 9100x. Love it. Pricey, though. It all depends on bow much you are willing to pay.
Reply:I too have a $50.00 Harbor Freight AD helmet. It is four or five years old and I've never been flashed, and it still works great. However, I have not used it for TIG, just MIG stick and arcair gouging."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:thanks, my jackson set me back around 300 so, one set of eyes to protect...don't mind spending some when it's needed.  I looked at a miller today, can't find a speedglass dealer
Reply:speedgls is the best i have had mine for 4 years and it still works great or optrel is real good and it has a grinder mode stay away from miller i have seen way to many of those crap out and if you shop around you can get a good price my speedgls retailed for 500 and i got it for under 300
Reply:I'm planning to get a Miller Elite. Can anybody please comment on the Magnifying Cheater Lenses for this helmet.tks
Reply:JayL,I have a Digital Elite and use either a 2.0 or a 3.0 cheater in it depending on what I'm doing. They slide into place easily and can be adjusted up or down about an inch in the holders to line them up with your eyes. Once positioned correctly they stay there, at least until you bump the hood hard against something. You won't go wrong with a digital elite hood.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:ok, got a jackson nexgen 3 in 1....love it.
Reply:Congrats on the new hood.  I was going to ask which Jackson you were using that wasn't working for you.  I have two EQC Pro Variables and another EQC that I forget the name of and the Pro Variables both work excellent for me for all processes and conditions.  No complaints at all.  The other EQC I have is a little finnicky and is too light for outdoor use.  It has a solar panel.  The PV's are both battery-only.   I perfer the batteries myself.  I've always wanted to try a NexGen or a Boss but these EQC's keep on working for me so no reason to replace them so far.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I had a hunstman solex variable for 3yrs and it worked really well for me.I recently upgraded to a Miller digital elite X. I just put it directly into myjackson hood. Reply:I have a cheapo norther tools auto hood and it works great so far.  Only complaint I have is that when I was using it the other day and someone was on the forklift the strobe from the forklift kept making it turn on... Was more annoying that anything.
Reply:Yeah those lift truck strobes are annoying.  I just switch to the regular fixed lens hood when strobes will be around constantly.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:im loving mine! i worked for 5 years with a free, pieced together jackson non-adjustable before getting this a couple weeks ago.
Reply:I saw a helment on Utube.  It showed a comparison between the auto dark and a helment that raises dark lens, I think with the use of chin motion. Does anyone have any experince with this helment?Check out the viedo, it look pretty cool
Reply:I got myself a pre Pro-Hobby Miller model helmet a few years ago and decided it is the best for the price. Its been 100% problem-free and I love it. I just brought myself a new Pro-Hobby on sale for a spare last month but will probably not use it for a long while.Dynasty 200DXCoolmate 3Millermatic 180Bluestar 185DXSmith guages and torchesmore stuff...

Reply:I get headaches after using the harbor freight AD hoods. I've used speedglass and lincoln hoods too, honestly I really couldn't find any difference between them. I still prefer using a regular #11 green lens any day.
Reply:This thread has some age but it is appropriate. I just picked up a HF autodarken helmet, My first, I love it. I no longer weld for a living and will use it here on the ranch.
