Just though i'd frop a line and let you in on my first recumbent bike project that I just completed. I completely built and tigged the frame from scratch. The only thing that I didn't fab are the typical bike components, tires, wheels, crank, headset and forks, driveline and controls (brake-derailer). The most challenging work was the seat back and bottom. Some of the tig welds are not some of my best work though, still relatively new to tig tube welding(1-2 mos.). The welds on the handlebars are probably the best I have done to date. It is alot of fun to ride and surprisingly comfortable.Check it out and let me know what you think. Just follow this link and click on the recumbent bike link.Recumbent Bike ProjectTiggerAaronHTP Invertig 201w/ CK-20 torch and Bernard ChillerHTP MicroCut 300 plasma cutterLincoln R3S-325 w/ TA 17A Wire FeederVictor Super Range II O/A kitClausing/Colchester 13X40 LatheBridgeport 9X42 Mill
Reply:Just tried your link, it came back tempararely unavaiable. I'll try it latter.  I don't want to hi-jack your thread, but I see you list you have the HTP 300, how do you like it ? Any problems? I talked to them and they said the gun was a contact type, does it work OK? I'm looking at getting the 400.I have the Invertig 201 and love it!Rich
Reply:Can't see it now either.
Reply:Sorry, the site has exceeded its data transfer limit. It says it should be available within an hour so if you get that message, try again later. Geocities suck but its free. I love the HTP 300!! I used just last night to cut some more rear dropouts for my next recumbent bike out of 1/4" steel. It says it can sever 5/16" but haven't tried that yet. The travel speed for 1/4" is reasonable and the price was excellent ($700 new). Sure beats some of the other brands by price difference alone and still uses common consumables for easy replacement. I am going to get the HTP 200 mig now and trade off my Hobart.TiggerAaronHTP Invertig 201w/ CK-20 torch and Bernard ChillerHTP MicroCut 300 plasma cutterLincoln R3S-325 w/ TA 17A Wire FeederVictor Super Range II O/A kitClausing/Colchester 13X40 LatheBridgeport 9X42 Mill
Reply:you might try photobucket next time you want to host a photo.  I see lots of people using them now.
Reply:I didn't know about the common consumables, which brands fit? That makes HTP a better deal!
Reply:Nice bike!  Where did you get the front forks or did you make that from scratch too?  Unrelated question, is your shop floor concrete and if so, what did you paint it with?  Reason I ask, previous owner here painted the garage floor to sell and now I'm constantly sweeping out the flakes.
Reply:I actually used the front forks off the moutain bike. No sense in fabricating something when when what you have is just fine. I painted the basement floor, which is concrete, with that same flake stuff you are talking about. I haven't noticed the flakes actually coming loose in a large amount so I don't know if it is the same. I got the paint at Menards. I have to dig in to see what brands fit the HTP300 as they do not say in the manual or catalog. I am getting a new website put together and was thinking that people may benefit from seeing a tutorial on bicycle building from scratch and recycled bikes. Right now, I am in the beginning stages of another recumbent and want to know what all of you think?TiggerAaronHTP Invertig 201w/ CK-20 torch and Bernard ChillerHTP MicroCut 300 plasma cutterLincoln R3S-325 w/ TA 17A Wire FeederVictor Super Range II O/A kitClausing/Colchester 13X40 LatheBridgeport 9X42 Mill
Reply:cant seem to get the pix site to come up- BW exceeded evert time I have tried.I have been thinking of building a recumbent suitable to a specific condition - for a middle- aged person somewhat permanently affected by a cervical disc injury that cannot handle having the neck bent backwards as it is on a regular ( diamondframe) bike where the semi-forward position means the spine is inclined far forward, maybe nearly horizontal, and the head must be raised to see forward. this position is nearly impossible for persons with cervical problems, and may also be contributing to the problems.many forms of recumbents solve this problem handily and can be ridden for extended periods. few are reasonably inexpensive and there are some that are made from recycled diamond bikes. I would like to see a site ( I would be glad to help with the work) that goes step-by step through the process of making up the parts via deconstructing the diamond bike(s), then creating the recumbent parts, assembly and finish work, and road testing. for those of further limited physical abilities, there could be a variation for trikes of one or emore configurations so that persons with pulmonary disability or other infirmity of age or other causes could ride also in comfort and without having to maintain speed for balance, fine tuned reflexes, trouble starting and stopping, etc. I think this would be a good contribution to the sport and arts. glad to see some of the interests are shared here!
Reply:How about building a tadpole trike?
Reply:Only think I don´t like about those bikes is the great loss of energy due to the size of the chains...Nice work thouMy Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
Reply:Congratulations,  Great job.I have built a couple of recumbents and a track bike.  Did you fabricate any parts with your mill or lathe?   To me, the most frustrating part with recumbents is making the seat and/or boom adjustable.  Mine have always been fixed. They're cheap to build if you strip a bicycle. You can even find a used bike with disc brakes for fairly cheap--at least compared to purchasing disc brakes new.
