welding ss to carbon steel

I was wondering what the best way to join ss and carbon steel. I want to run ss exhaust pipe on my truck, but want to weld my glass packs on. I didn't know if I need to tig it, or oxy weld it? Thanks.
Reply:Best bet is to tig weld it, with 309L filler. There is some 309 stick welding rod, and that is an option. In some rare instances, you can get 309 mig filler wire, and in a pinch you could use 308, though it's not ideal and you would later see some cracking probably.SS and Oxy/ Acet. do not get along very well together, that would be my last choice.Good luck with it!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
