I am looking to build a shallow river running jet sled.  Flatbottom or one with a slight V hull.  Something like the Alumaweld Jet Sleds.  15-20' long.  Preferably 15-17'.I will be building it out of aluminum and TIG welding the entire boat for cosmetic reasons.  I was wondering if anybody has any blueprints for a similar style boat that they are done with and are willing to part with for a bit of $$.  The prints online that I have found are expensive and I wanted to talk to someone who has already built one so I can't ask questions about costs, difficulty, etc...
Reply:I don't have any prints but I have a drift boat here for a repair.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Here are some links I put together for a co-worker.  These are mostly stitch and glue; but you might be able to transfer the plywood cuts onto aluminum, then weld the chines.  Or maybe build a light frame from the lofting diagrams, then put aluminum over that.http://www.svensons.com/boat/http://absolutelyfreeplans.com/Boat%...boat_plans.htmhttp://www.smallboats.com/iras_plans.htmhttp://www.alaska.net/~fritzf/Boats/...cky_Lassie.htmhttp://www.duckworksmagazine.com/00/DM2000/designs.htmhttp://www.simplicityboats.com/
Reply:Farm Show magazine had a piece in it this month where a guy took a jet ski (sit down model), left the motor, seat and rear (stern) part of the hull and grafted it into an aluminum boat.  Probably not what you're looking for but if you want to go light weight and shallow draft it would work.just my $0.02.

Reply:Tig welding the outside corners and some parts for cosmetic reasons is pretty standard, but you need mig to put the thing together. You will warp your sides and transom, not to mention your bottom. They will all warp if you tig them together. You want the penetration of mig without the heat transfer of tig. Go to a boat show and see how those guys are doing it.Bill
