Just curious if anyone knows of a site that gives tutorials on how to form or roll a cone out of 1/8" and higher plate. I've seen some sites that pertain to sheetmetal but nothing on heavier material

Reply:Rolling a cone out of 1/8" plate VS. thin guage sheet is all the same process..You just need heavier machinery.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:At one place, we rolled 1/8 or better on a roll that had a stop on one end. Then you off set the rolls, pinching tighter on the stop end.. I'm sure it took them a few tries to get the marks just right on the machine.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:I use a small length of angle iron with a wedge shaped piece welded on the right side and a piece of mig wire strung thru a small hole in the angle with a weight hung on the wire. The angle rides in between the top and bottom rolls with the wire hanging out the backside over the bottom roll to keep it in place. The angle will be placed on the left side of the rolls. The metal will be placed into the rolls and tight up against the wedge/angle piece. The part will be drawn into the rolls and follow the curvature of the cone if it is held tight against the wedge/angle. I use the same wedge/angle for sheetmatal to 1/2" plate in different rolls...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:I just today layed out a couple of 24"X16" cones and got them cut out of 5/16 stainless plate. I didn't get to the rolling part today but it will be first thing in the morning. I'll try and get some pics of the process. |
