Reply:beautifull, i love 6013 especially when you get it just right and the slag just curls off behind you. what polarity was used ,ac ,dc-, or dc+ ?
Reply:thanks lads appreciate the comments.this is the old girl dc genset, good old machine .we had 4 up until 2 years ago,i fried one wworking in a fertalizer plant you can imagine the panic, flames everywhere.things turned out fine though we were able to heat the pies in a rod oven. Attached Images

Reply:great looking welds pipe fitter..one question..is 6013 the norm for pipe over there..here in the chemical plants in canada 7018 is all that is allowed...some roots are still 6010 or 6011 but more and more we are told to tig the root and fill with 7018
Reply:That's one hell of a Texas weave! Very nice looking cover pass.
Reply:thanks lads, billie ;it is normal practice here to weld most pipe with 6013 thank goodness.i know that if i were working in a chemical plant here , it would be argon root and and lo/hi cap same as yours.difference being non product lines steam condense etc 6013.the last time i used 7 series rods must be 10years.i really dont want to use 70s if i dont have to but im curious about them so i had another go today granted i am showing the best bit but i tried burning both neg and pos this was pos still not convinced they should be a gp rod. thanks for your time.just to say i welded a 6inch butt 2 weeks ago so its not 10 years. Reply:another fine weld..and thanks for the response...i have used 6013 and i find it lights easier than 7018 and to me it seems to freeze a little quicker..and for the most part it is easier to get a smooth looking weldbut i can see you get a god looking weld with either...nice job!

Reply:this flange was welded with a 3.2, 6013 rod on the roll not flat as shown, keep the amps well up say 120 plus amps, roll the pipe towards yourself and keep the rod pointing slightly uphill at the 5 30 position the flux scorpion tails every time.if your hot enough the stub of the rod should be red hot.hope you try it pipefitter.
