what kind of knickknacks do ya'll make for extra money on the side? and is it worth it most of the time? the reason im asking is seems like most people dont want to pay for materials, let alone labor. can yall post pics if any?
Reply:I'm an "metal artist" full time..........nick knack's are what I do!!!!One too many Smirnoff Ice's..........and I've only had one....................200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:It's what I do for most of my living. Go to my web site dracometalworks.com There's pictures out the wazoo.
Reply:When I do art I only try to cover the cost of materials and consumables.  Labor is the love I have for doing it.  If I can manage to do a project and cover my costs, then I have lost nothing and had a good time doing it along the way.  Otherwise I am running a business, and it aint art it's a product, and all of the regular business rules apply.I'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Minimalist artists are big around Marfa Texas because Donald Judd moved there in the early 70s to use old empty plain army buildings to display his art.  Many of these items are mostly metal, painted in Rustoleum and look like we got drunk and used some 7018 on a coupla pieces of scrap for fun. They are very spendy, like thousands, and folks come from around the world now to buy there... Minimalist art is  subtle, and the plain background is good. Well then, I'm home and visiting a friend there, a cowboy who makes spurs and other cowboy items for folks and I asked him about the art.  "What about all the minimalsit art around here now?"  I comment.   Well, he says,  " I could go out to the scrap pile and grab up a coupla pieces and weld her up and paint it and hang it on the wall too,  but... I might need that scrap for some real working project, so best not to WASTE it."   One mans view...    Art is great, not knocking it at all, but many of the projects I've seen here are inspirational and beautiful and to me that is a form of art too. Cowboy art sells, like boot cleaners, gate hinges etc...Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
