This gate was made of materials and ideas from other jobs. The cala lily (flower) was made for a balcony I did 5 years ago. This was the first one I made. It is formed from 1/16" sheet that was heated and shaped. The stem is 1/2 inch round bar. The butterfly body is 1/2" round shaped with a grinder. The wings are 1/8" sheet, I don't remember how I cut them. The antennae were made from 1/16" o/a welding rod. The welding was done with o/a.The pickets are 3/4 inch 16g tubing. The spears were formed by running a cutoff wheel down the center of the tubing about 2 inch deep. The halves are then hammered together. Then the process is repeated until the point is formed. The gap is welded and grinded/ground. I got this technique from making bicycles. It is a method for taperng stays(smaller tubing on a bicycle) to fit wheel dropouts. The sun is torch cut from 1/8" sheet. It was left rough. The latch is 1/2" sq. inside a 3/4" tubing. Perhaps this might stir somebodies creative juices. I had no use for this gate. After It was built I drove around with it welded to my truck and took it to some landscape designers as advertisment.
