need advive on buying a torch set used :/

Im guessing its from the late 1980's , hard to tell the condition from the pictures. If you want a portable setup its probably not a bad price if its all in good condition, if the regulators creep or the torch valves dont seal its going to get expensive quick. A new equivelant setup is about $350-450. Also understand the limitations of the cylinder size, portables are great for safe cracking and quick small jobs, but are expensive to feed and have serious limitations on cutting use and larger welding tips.
Reply:1-despite the 1/7 rule, when using a typical welding tip for an aircraft size torch, the portable tanks seem to last about 4 hours, much less while cutting.2-honestly about 3/8 with that cylinder size3-Of course, but your going to be limited to about 1/8"-3/16" thickness due to cylinder size.4-depends how much you want to use it, you can always start on it, and if the cylinders are getting used up too quickly, get ( or rent ) larger cylinders and transfer your torch over.

Reply:These set are for small jobs.  Mainly used in the HVAC industry.  You will be very limited in what you can do.  Also, the cylinders look old, oxygen tanks have to be hydrostatic test every 5 or 10 years.  It may be expensive to get the oxygen filled.To test for leaks, pressurize the system with the torch valves closed.  If either high pressure gauges goes down, you have a leak some where.  Use the soapy water to find it.  If either of low pressure gauges goes up, the valve seat in your regulator are leaking and the regulator will have to be rebuilt.  If they need to be rebuilt, you should not pay more than 45.00 per regulator.  Some repair shops may offer a discount for multi peice orders.  I know we do.Hope this helps.JImOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
