Has or is anyone using a 3m speedglas welding helmet? And would you recommend it?Last edited by ashley; 06-23-2010 at 03:00 PM.
Reply:I used a friends speedglas, it was very comfortable. Best of all, my eyes didn't itch after hours of on and off welding. It is a great helmet, but expensive.
Reply:Yeah I noticed the price right away, but I want to get something good.
Reply:This is the one I usedhttp://store.cyberweld.com/speedglas9000v.html
Reply:3M SPEEDGLAS 100V  VARIABLE WELDING HELMET This is the one I found and its a reasonable price.
Reply:That helmet would make my day
Reply:I have a speedglas at work in a welding / fab shop. everyday is something different. some days I fab handrails double tacking each end of each picket hundreds of pickets....800 taks?...never been flashed. Some days I weld all day and my eyes are fine at the end of the day . It has been dropped many times. Just recently we were installing a gate and a sudden downpour hit-so we threw everything under a tarp-that had a hole in it,needless to say my shield ended up full of water.I let it dry out  ....still works. I also have a Speedglas utility series at home-just as good ,but not variable.-Zeb
Reply:I have a 9002x and it is a great hoodUA Local 598
Reply:Ashley,  Speedglas is top of the line. I used mine for several years then passed it on to my son who used it in his welding class. Still kicking and does not miss a beat. If you have the budget for it I am sure he will be pleased. jrw159
Reply:GOOD! I think I have made my decision! Thanks Guys.
Reply:Just get a Speedglas 9100XX and be done with it! Attached Images
Reply:I agree with LarryO on this one, Speedglas 9100xx is the best. If you want to get a quality helmet and not have to worry about needing to upgrade in the future, that is THE helmet to buy. My wife convinced me to just buy the 9100xx so I would not be lusting after a better helmet later on, she was right.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8

Reply:Your link didn't work.  In any case, stay with a quality name brand (Jackson, Miller, Speedglas, Huntsman, Optrel) and you won't be disappointed.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I don't understand why everyone cries about them costing so much.  A pro racer doesn't buy the cheapest helmet they can, and a Infantryman doesn't buy the cheapest boots he can get.  If several hundred is too much for you, buy a used one like I did.  I found a used 9002v for $125.  I'd much rather have a high quality used item than a lesser quality new item.
Reply:dang it, well i will just stick to all your words and go for the best.

Reply:I like my Miller digital elite X lens, it fits perfectly into my Jackson shadow shell that i've had forever.I feel the same way about my safety equipment.I don't mind spending the money because I use it 60+ hrs a week, and I'm not trusting my eyes/hands/etc to anything that isn't tried and true.CWI, CWE, CST for Miller, Lincoln, Thermadyne, Hypertherm & ESABMillermatic 350PLincoln Invertec 205 AC/DCVictor combo torchESAB PCM 1125
