G'day all. I have a 6 ton excavator quick hitch to repair for a customer. As well as the usual cracks, there is slop in the hitch itself between the pins and the hooks. I've built up the worn hooks before using NR233 but that didn't last long.Rather than buy a box of carbide hardfacing rods I was thinking of using some cast iron rods (Ni-Fe) I have instead. I also have some hardfacing rods that are intended for earth to steel but I think they will also wear too quickly. (The pins are made from 4140). Any thoughts or advice? Thanks
Reply:30% or 50% nickel rods probably wouldn't last as well as 12018. There are some iron based materials that are intended for this that will live well with medium carbon low alloy materials that range from 120ksi to "whup a$$".If you want to get very serious with this, look at one of these all alloy fillers;http://www.weldmold.com/index.php?op...=133&Itemid=15Ask your LWS for pricing (used to be pretty reasonable maybe 3x Er12018), or go with similar from your favorite brand. I love to look at the 3/4" electrodes as the pics scroll by at the top...edit, forgot the linkMatt
