I mentioned in another post of an idea for aluminum tread brite and that got me to thinking so I decided to make another over the 4th. It took me a few hours to throw it together, but the outcome is one of a kind. So here are a few steps that I took to make it. I rolled out a piece that was covered in paper so I wouldn't scratch it up too badly. Then I trimmed each side down to get 10" diameter for the top and 9" diameter for the bottom, tacked the two sides together and stuffed a round plate inside. Then I used an angel indicator to make the plate consistant to the sides of the shell. Once it was fairly even, I used a level on the plate and shims under the shell to get it true in two directions. Then I looked for the tallest point off the table and set my pen height so I could mark all the way around the piece, parallel to the table so I could cut it flat and attach the bottom. I matched the top rim to the bottom by measuring and connecting the dots then trimming. After the side and base were tacked pretty securely, I dogged a 2" piece of trim to the inside lip. And here's the finished product. I didn't much care for the angle of the handle so I ended up rolling a 3/8" s.s grip and matched it with 1/8" filler to follow the radius of the pail. I'll post a picture of that later. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:I managed to put 8 bottles in it at once.. they didn't last very long so I had to refil it again. I think it was in the upper 90's so my ice didn't last half an hour in the open.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom. |
