We call it a hoist...MAC 702 wanted to see the "crane"..So naturally I took some pics...They are "Budgit Hoists"..Rated for 2 tons..But we have picked up considerably more with them.. These are pics of the one "out back" where I am..Hoist..Hook..Travel wheels...Same unit "down front"..So...What do you use yo pick up heavy stuff??No back pics...OK??   ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:This is the only shot of this hoist that I have. Used it for most of ten yrs and its still hangin'. I personally picked 2400 lbs with it. Spooky---  Attached Images
Reply:Mine's not that heavy duty but I use it all the time for moving projects and tools on and off the welding table and just moving stuff around the shop. It has a HF 1300# hoist and the arm is 12' long 2x4" 1/8" wall tube with barn door tracks welded on each side. The tracks are rated for 450# each but 600# is about the heaviest thing I have picked up with it. The trolleys bolt right into the mounting holes on the hoist and are spaced exactly the right amount apart. The post is a double 4x6 that supports the ridge beam and the upper pivot is reinforced with a tension rod that attaches to the 4x12 ridge beam. Seems plenty strong and doesn't deflect much at all under loadCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Reply:Nice cranes....  I used to do a good bit of overhead crane work in some mobile home plants a few years ago.  Most were in the 6-8 ton range.  I'll see what I can dig up, and take some of my own in the morning..I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I've got a Budgit 1.5 ton hoist here in the shop. Found it at a yard sale for $20!! This model goes for over a grand new!  I've got to build a boom or a trolley for it, just hanging from a ceiling truss right now!

Reply:Well here is my new....errrrrrrrr Old, errrrrr....Soon to be new overhead system.   This is the overhead hoist system my dad built back in the 50's in his farm shop.....  For an old farmer I don't think he did too bad.     After the shop I was renting got sold  I started tearing down the old dilapidated building and purchased an all steel clear span frame to turn this into the new home of "Hammack Welding "  Hopefully one more weekend, and we will have it all torn down and cleaned up so we can start building back....   Anyway here are a few shots..... Reply:Not exactly a ceiling crane but a crane none the less. Its a crane off of a scrapped Liberty ship that was brought here during the latter part of the WW2 to launch personel carriers. We now use it to pull and step spars on sailing vessels. If you look close at teh 2nd pic you can see our awesome 1 man powered ceiling hoist  Attached Images
