New Machines-How Often to Come Out?

Unlike the automobile industry that offers new products yearly, it does not seem like the welding business follows any set course.  In some industries, derived demand creates sales by virtue of offering a "new" product that customers must have.  I don't really hear rumors before a new welding machine comes out,  Am I correct on the release of new products, or am not tuned in enough?  How often are new machines supposed to come out based on your experience?  As with any purchase, you would hate to buy something, just to find out something better was just about to be offered.Thanks for the replies.
Reply:When what I own meets my current needs, I don't get concerned about new releases.  Consumerism and having to have the latest and greatest can become a disease.
