Reply:Looks good, I have built several hog traps over the years.  Just a suggestion, but use more than two or three traps together at the time.  When you catch one hog alot of times the others will circle the trap for a while after.  Using more than one trap at a time will usually catch another one or more while they are circling the trap trying to figure out whats up.  I just built 20 traps for a guy out of FLA who owns land here.  Same gate mechanism as what you have, but the traps are made of interlocking panels.  Usually sets them up with four panels and a door each making a cage roughly 70 square feet.  He buries a hand size three finger garden rake in soured corn with the line from the gate tied to it.  It gives more time for the hogs to get into the large trap and start rooting in the corn before the door shuts when one roots the rake loose.  Not uncommon for him to catch as many as a sow or two, and a whole litter of pigs at once.  Nice trap.  Just throwing some ideas out at you.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Originally Posted by Leadhead1911I remember the story on that particular hog.  It was over 1000 pounds, and the shooter was 11 years old or so.  Originally it was reported that the hog was wild, but it was later discovered that he was raised on a farm and then released prior to the hunt.  The folks who raised him called him "Fred.
Reply:Yea the kid just hunted that hog in a big fenced in acreage and it took him many shots to finally drop him. I read that the kid is actually far behind the hog in that pic so it makes the hog look much bigger. I read the original owners used to feed him canned yams right from there hand so I am sure the hog walked right up to the kid expecting to get hand fed some yams or something but instead got a bullet. Really sad that people call that hunting.

Reply:Buddy of mine found a bear in a hog trap in north Florida so he thought he'd be a good guy and turn him loose. The bear wasn't in an appreciative mood and put him on the roof of his truck- quick time. Boy said he didn't know a bear could move that fast or him either for that matter! Reply:That's not "Hogzilla."  It was shot in AL by the kid.  A lot of stories floating around, but if you search and read the articles in the Birmingham News and Montgomery Advertiser, you'll find the truth.  Never heard anything about the release and kill thing, it was DNA tested and found to be a wild Domestic cross (not unusual in the wild round these parts!) and if I remember, it went just over 1000 pounds.Anyway, the kid shot it fair and square and is quite upset about all the speculation.  Personally, I don't see the fun in hog hunting, just another pest to be eliminated by the hundreds if possible.  EXTREMELY destructive to habitat.  Ask AL and FL Fish and Wildlife agents why there is no closed season or limit!!Rob PageMiller Bobcat 250Lincoln SP170-T

Reply:yea, most anywhere there are wild hogs and farms you are going to have crosses.  We are over run with them here.  I kill everyone I see, and keep a rifle in the truck all the time just for that reason. They will ruin a crop field as well as any other habitat they run across.  I remember when that kid killed that hog.  I do remember them saying it was legit.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
