Hey guys,Here's the next series of compact unit I hope some of you can use to save space & be full function. There are 15 photos, so please allow me to post the entire series before you respond since there are only 5 photos per post allowed. Each series of photos will have a description of the methodology I used.Physical dimensions:Length= 36"Width= 24"Height w/casters= 27.5"Miter angles= 80deg.Total width assembled= 57"Photo1: Unit in stored condition. I did not paint the frame because I could photograph each assembly as it shows the contrast of the fittings of parts & configuration of brackets & studs.Photo 2: Side viewPhoto 3: Rear ViewPhoto 4: 1" X 1" angle added to support right extension.Photo 5: Right extension in place--18.5" X 15.5"On to next series.........Remember not to reply till all photos posted....Last edited by ZTFab; 08-17-2007 at 01:14 PM.Complete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Photo 11: Left extension bracket assembly...1" X 3/4" anglePhoto 12 & 13: 1/4 X 20 studs welded to plates and welded to frame.Photo 14: Unit tucked in corner under shelf.Photo 15: This corner has 3 MIG welders, 1 stick welder, 1 table saw, 1 chop saw and encompasses an area of 6' X 5'=======30 SQ. FT.!!!!!!I hope some of you who need to compact your areas find use for these ideas. And there is still plenty of room for my "Z" to reside. In addition to this posting, I will post some cutting ideas with this saw on the "Cutting/Machining" section as soon as I finish here.....Hope you can utilize this idea for your needs...DennyLast edited by ZTFab; 08-17-2007 at 01:18 PM.Complete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Looks great, nice job.One comment - in photo #9 it looks like you are cross cutting using the miter gage and the rip fence. Huge no-no. If the material gets skewed between the blade and fence - raelly bad things happen. The piece will get spit out in a heart beat. abetter way to do it is to have a little block clamped to your fence and when you slide the miter gage forward you have clearance between the blade and fence. I've been a wood worker for a a lot of years and have seen lots of people get hurt doing what you show. If the set-up was for photo purposes only - nevermind all the above.- Later
Reply:Yup on Jdawg's safety hint.On a table saw, you can use the miter gauge to guide the piece, or you can use the rip fence to guide the piece.  You NEVER-NEVER-NEVER use both at the same time.        If you are crosscutting with the miter gauge and want to use the rip fence as a stop-block, you put a small block clamped to the fence so that the work can butt against it for the stop-block function but then clears the block and fence as soon as you slide the piece and miter gauge forward and before the workpiece engages the blade. No having the workpiece guided or trapped between both the miter gauge and the rip fence if the blade is cutting or touching the workpiece.  That's a set-up for a kickback disaster.  And even a 'little' table saw with a 'little' motor is stronger and faster than you can hold or react in a kickback situation. Oh, nice project.    Where are the pics of the welds?     Remember, this -IS- WeldingWeb, not just LookAtTheCoolThing-I-MadeWeb.Last edited by MoonRise; 08-17-2007 at 12:13 PM.
Reply:Hey Jdawg & MoonRise,You are correct & I use the miter ga. to square the AL fence on the right extension, not to cut with. Sorry for not mentioning that. I do appreciate the corrections & clarifications by members so as to prevent any accidents. Any saw can really be dangerous if proper procedures aren't adhered to. Thanks guys.....DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. ShopMobile UnitFinally retired*Moderator*"A man's word is his honor...without honor there is nothing.""Words are like bullets.... Reply:Great space-saving design!  Not everyone has the luxury of a large shop.Do the metal chips get shot out the bottom into a catch bag or something?WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
