I built a trailer and have used the small 4 lug rims (570x8). I have an old GMC chrome front bumper off my dads 72 Jimmy that is wide enough but slightly bent in the center from a misguided deer. I would like to make a set of fenders for the trailer out of it. Is there anyway to bend this , or will the chrome crack at the bend? I guess heat will turn the chrome blue, as in motorcycle pipes. No radical curve, just enough to look like a fender and not a missplaced part of a bumper... Any Ideas? Attached Images
Reply:If you want to prove that it can be done, then yes, the chrome will prolly crack.Fenders for that size wheel are cheap over the counter.Trailer FendersCity of L.A. Reply:I dont know why you would bother, TSC has trailer fenders for next to nothing. I bet you can get a set for that for under $40.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Yes I can buy a set of Chinese fenders on the cheap. Would rather build my own. Pretty much anything posted on this site can be bought if your too lazy to build it. Building your own ,not only gives you a sense of accomplishment, but IN most cases is better then anything you can buy at any store , and its something you can be proud of. The trailer has 8 ply tires, Henshen 2500 LB rated U.S. made axle , Fafnir bearings. And 4 days of sweat building it from 2 junk 1949 U.S. made camper frame parts. My question was , how can I do it , thats all. I can lay the heat to them and shape them any way I want, what I cant do with a hammer I can do with a 50 ton press. I will refrase my question, Can you gently bend chrome plated steel with out damaging the finish? If so how? Thanks for taking the time to respond, but not the answer I was looking for.

Reply:Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but I don't see any springs!

Reply:Don't have any experience with one but if you have access to and english wheel it might do the job or it might destroy the chrome. I think it would be worth experimenting with , no heat involved and no hammering. good luck. let us know."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400
