Newb here....I have an O/A set up and all of a sudden the Oxy Reg let go, expelling gas from the holes in the chrome cup (through diaphram). I took it all apart, blew it out and re-installed. Now it works, but if I turn up the pressure a bit oo much, it does it again.... every heard of that? It's a Harris.

Reply:My guess is a seat has failed and needs to be replaced.  I would be very careful taking apart an O2 reg. Everything burns in the pressence of 100% O2 at high pressure. If you get any oil, dirt or contaminants in the reg and the HP O2 hits it, you are asking for a fire. Not a little "opps it's on fire" type fire, but a BANG! Woosh! instant fire ball type fire. I'd seriously suggest having this done by someone who can do a propper cleaning and rebuild on the reg.I'd also recomend you PM Jim (OAdoctor) here or contact him thru his site, www.regulatortorchrepair.com . I'm sure he can get you taken care of. If you can post up the actual model it would help. In some cases it's just not worth the time and money to fix a bad reg, especially the cheaper ones, just buy new. Jim can let you know what it might cost for the rebuild vs new if he knows exactly what you've got..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks guys - it's not that I wouldn't believe you, or don't think it "could" happen, but imagine ALL the times every day people hook up dirty regs to dirty O2 bottles....nothing happends. I'd say you'd have to have EXACTING circumstance to have an explosion.Back to the topic at hand - and because I'm not about to ignore our warnings (!!) -  I think I'll go buy a new reg!
Reply:actually kinda sounds like the hp seat is wore out also u could have a crack in the hp side housing. not sure were u are but its usually way cheaper to just get it rebuildt local welding supply should know where u can get it done. here in okc that,d be a 30 35 dollar repair. the internal harris parts are actually a little cheaper than the victor parts. not sure why. ten minute fix at a place where the repair guy knows what he's doing. ive seen three exploded regulators in the last three years. all three were regulators self repaired bye the owners. luckily there were no serious injuryies. u are correct it is rare but it does happen. anyway good luck with ur set up!
