i am welding aluminum .125 mostly with 100% argon ,,,,,,, i know it should always be pushed,,,,,,,,,,,,,but what is the best travel angle to get rid of the suiet [black stuff] give me a few pointers.....i'm welding dimond plate alu and doing lots of plug welds....you cannot blister or blow through or big trouble after a few times of that.....i'm always looking for good advise
Reply:i try to use a 10 to 15 degree push; but it can be hard to get the weld burning hot enough to burn off the soot when you are just plug weldingDynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:Who says you only push? You can weld with it either way and you better learn to do it either way as there will be times you can't weld it pushing. The suet may be from you not having the tip close enough to the weld.
Reply:Well, type of power source, type of gun and diameter of wire would be helpfull
Reply:i have a 30a gun. your going to get some black its a good thing Attached Images

Reply:You can push or pull aluminum mig, both work. Pushing gives the best gas coverage and less soot than pulling. Recessing the tip 1/8" to 1/4" back into the nozzle gives better gas coverage than setting the tip flush with the nozzle. Cleaning the aluminum of the oxidation layer, dirt, oil, paint and corrosion results in a cleaner weld and less soot.Last edited by DesertRider33; 08-14-2010 at 11:59 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Looks like someone did not grind a root in the aluminum that was being welded in the pictures. If a person had enough work, they could invest in a automatic tig outfit.http://www.bugo.com/This is what we use for production. |
