Head board?

Hey guys, my wife is bugging me to weld together a head board for our bed. She's wanting something similar to what you would see as a fancy gate at a house. Just obviously not a gate. Anyone know where to start? I suppose measurements would help... Anyhow, any advice is welcome! Thanks!

Reply:This is one that my daughter made for her senior project in High School.It was her first major welding project.
Reply:I made a headboard and footboard for my little girl that has some ornamental scroll work fit under a laminated maple curved top piece.  I'll try to put up a picture of it.I actually went out and bought a cheap bed frame and bolted my shop built end pieces to it.  It knocks down, is the exact right size, and is already finished.

Reply:I've been tossing around the idea for a head/footboard as well. The futon I'm sleeping on just isn't cutting it. The thing is, before I had the futon, for nearly 15 years I had a water bed. I'm not thinking about getting another one, but one thing I did like about the old water bed was the nice big headboard with all the cubbie holes and shelves and things. I've never seen anything like that in wrough iron. Any suggestions?Jax

Reply:Well, now that you've gave us the proper measurements, I can't really suggest any kind of design or fabrication methods at all.  I would advise you to make something out of gold & diamonds, and plenty of it, because that gal definitely looks worth it!!
