Is there a calculator available somewhere online for estimating what size cable you need for leads of a certain length for a certain amperage? For example if I want to weld at 150amp DC 200ft away from the machine?
Reply:http://www.pacificcabling.com/Specia...rage_chart.htmIf you look at the chart you would need 3/0 cable to weld 200' away from the machine at 150 amps. you have to figure the length of both leads, so 200' away becomes 400' on that chart. You could probably get away with 2/0 if you didn't have all that much to do.leads that long, I'd look at breaking the leads up into manageable lengths with tweeco QD's. You could also get away using a lighter lead on the ends that might be easier to work with normally. The leads for my stick machine are 15' and 25' of #2 with the ground clamp and stinger attached. teh "extension" leads are all 2/0 with QD's in lengths from 25'-50' depending on what lengths they came when I got them used. I can just add what ever lengths I need to get where I need, and still have a light weight end to work with..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
