I am working on brass trays (.055 thickness). Right now I am using silicone bronze, with straight argon gas but I don't like the results. If I fuse it the material has a tendency to warp. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:Hi Eddie,If you have access to a small O/A torch, you may want to braze this together. It will be less heat than welding. Either way, sounds like you will need to metal work the finished product some after either process. If you stay with the mig, try .023 wire on lower heat and wire speed. Also, don't weld the entire length in one shot!! Do one tack in the begining of the weld, then go to the end and tack. Let this cool for a while, then slowly fill the rest and allow each tack to cool some before the next.HTH,Seth |
