to all my fellow boilermakers out there, i need some advice/tips or tricks on "shooting the gap" i believe..... (tig a root pass between two tubes on the backside while looking through the 1/8" gap) any info would help out greatly....

Reply:make sure you have 2 tacks on the front side (so you're look thru hole doesn't close on you). weld the tachs coming toward you and pull out on the top bevel, this will give you a key-hole at the end of you're tack. this gives you a place to feed you're wire from that won't close up and also a wire rest. also I've found to grind you're tungsten not with a long point but short like a nail point. you will be welding more or less out of "memory" and the first few you do you're tungsten will look like a football anyway. these are fun welds so have fun. revpol local 169 dearborn |
