Reply:when i first got my HH175, i got everything hooked up and rolling. Laid out some stringers. This being my first time welding, i assumed i was doing something wrong to cause the wagon track porosity. After about a week, im discussing it with a friend, and he said 'sounds like your gas aint workin'. Sure enough, if you dont seat the gun ALL the way in, the gas will just pour into the case, not thru the gun. Ooops.
Reply:When I bought my MM251 (keep in mind this was my 5th machine in 3 years) I was so excited about firing it up after all the initial problems, I plugged it in and pulled the trigger.What was left was the ugliest weld I had seen in a long time.  My first welds on my Craftsman 90A MIG were better.  I'd had enough.  I was ready to shoot someone.  I'd just traded off my beloved  T/A-185 (an awesome machine in it's own right) for this?I could tell there was no gas, and I check the valve, the regulator, everything.   I tried everything I new to try, so I decided to pull everything apart and reassemble the unit.  I discovered that when the dealer had "partially assembled" the unit they had stuck the gun in only part way.  I quickly reassembled the unit, and then laid the beads I posted on the BJ-Free site.  It happens to all of us one time or another.
Reply:One of the great advantages of age is what RockyD calls experience.I recall a day when I walked in one of the shops where one of our young wiseasses had spent most of the morning "welding" a stake body up with a MIG.  I knew the instant I saw the welds what he had done.  When I asked 2 guys who knew better why they hadn't set him straight one of them told me they were tired of being informed that he was going to college and was a lot smarter than they were.By the end of the next day Wiseass sure was lots smarter, and had become expert at using a 7" grinder.Don't feel like the Lone Ranger guys, it's getting a lot harder to make an original mistake.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
