Got MM251 set for spray today. Checked wfs meter setting, off -40 ipm from 285 - 630 using +/- 10 %. Don't know if thats ok for a new machine ? Steelmix 84/16, .035 E70s-6 @ 27.5 v @ 630 ipm ( eff 590 ipm ) 1/4" fillet. My amp meter showed 237 amps. Wow, this was real nice, no splatter/nice welds, but you got to move. I only had time for 5/6 cupons w/ wife watching volt meter, it never changed even when playing a little with stick-out. Does this sound right ? If the machine cant make 27.5 v would the meter show something less than the setting ? Boy have I been missing the boat not spraying as 95% of my stuff is 1/8 - 1/2 fillet & a little vert. down. However I have a question; if I'am doing 1/2" fillets will it require more than 1 pass ? if so how would I lay the 2nd ( float it on top w/ a little weave ? ) or do 3 passes. This is only my 2nd try at spraying and I would greatly appreicate any comments from you guys.
Reply:Off topic- are you running full width axles or something (wondering about board name)?  Your WFS is within 10% (less than 567ipm in this case would have dropped you below 10%) -this is good.  Horizontal Fillet's are supposed to be 5/16" max size for single pass, and Flat Fillet's up to 1/2". To run a multi-pass weld, 1st lay the root pass1/4" than lay two other passes along the two legs (legs = outside edges of a bead ) of your root pass.    When your beads exceed the max size you run the risk of cold lap & lack of fusion. Robots can use weave patterns to increase their bead widths beyond these numbers,  some Weldor's can also do this- it is very easy to put the arc into the puddle though. If you are still planning to weld the 1/4" material to the 1/2" plate multi-pass should not be needed especially if your table is a standard 4-leg design. Don't digital meters display actual values while welding- it is just in their nature-some one please correct this if otherwise."after a long day of doing nothing...its gooood to kick back" Pumbaa

Reply:Originally posted by widetrackman Planet X thanks for the input. I dont understand what you are saying about "Your WFS is within 10% (less than 567 ipm in this case would have dropped below 10%) this is good". Where did the 567 ipm come from. Maybe I didnt do the 10% thing right.
Reply:Originally posted by Planet X If I read your post correctly- the machine displayed 630 inches per minute but it really put out 590 inches per minute? Well 10% of 630 is 63, so then I subtracted 630-63 = 567. So anything less than 567 would mean your displays would be wrong by more than 10% on the low side. Same for high side just add the 10% # (63 in this case)  So if 630 + 63=693  we know this. Your machine displays 630IPM, but in reality spits out 590IPM which is OK. See on your machine any length of wire between 693-567 inches means your machine is within 10% plus or minus tolerance's which 590 is-
