I found this welder locally for sale and I am going to check on it tonight. Anyone familiar with it? Are there any particular things I should check on specifically for this model? The seller states that it is in good working order, just needs a new battery. He said he could jump start it for me tonight and see how it works.Below are pics... anyone want to throw out a price what something like this might be worth? Attached Images
Reply:ejamated guess $1K...
Reply:Sorry, I just realized I should've probably posted this in the Miller section. Rookie mistake. He was asking $1300 and he is down to $1000 now, so good estimate. Anything I should check out or watch for on this model?
Reply:I had a Roughneck 2E just like the one you're looking at. I loaned it to a friend and somebody carted it off. Overall it was a great welder. I did have continous carburetor problems though, which made it hard to start especially after it ran awhile and than sat. I even had the carb professionally rebuilt and that didn't help. Mine had a Tecumseh engine. Other than carb problems it was a seriously heavy duty machine.
Reply:Well I picked it up last night. He jump started it, and demonstrated that the welder worked and all outlets on the generator worked. I hope it's $1k well spent and works out for my pipe fence repair project.Wish me luck!

Reply:Wow, what a difference the right tool makes. I'm no pro by any means, but I can get the job done with this machine. Bought a new battery and worked like a charm. Thanks for the advice and I will definitely keep this machine locked up.
Reply:Nice machine, I have the older model that uses the jack plugs to set amps instead of the range selector handle yours does. Mine has the Tecum. engine also. Parts for the engine are getting a little difficult to locate since the engine manufacturer has been out of bussiness for a while. Some engine parts you can find, others are totally impossible. Other than that, it is a good machine and should serve you well. Enjoy!By the way, what is the aux. ac output and at what rpm?Last edited by smawgmaw; 09-09-2010 at 08:22 AM.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:Good info to know... you wouldn't happen to have a source or link to a supplier to look for parts. I need a few, nothing major, but would be a good reference.Below is the aux output from the manual: Attached Images
Reply:I can't find anything in the manual that says what the output is at what RPM. Plus, I am assuming this is the right manual. I downloaded it from the Miller site.
Reply:For the ac output, look at the figures next to the duplex recpt. on the front panel. I was curious, mine puts out 3.5kw at 1850rpm. If Im correct, yours probably does 7kw at 3700rpm. Here are a few sites that may help you with engine parts and manuals.http://www.tecumsehpower.com/http://www.outdoordistributors.com/http://www.partstree.com/parts/http://www.rcpw.com/tecumseh-engine-parts/Goodluck and good welding! Reply:I'll check it out tonight when I get home and let you know. Thanks for the links, I appreciate it.
Reply:No problem! Just curious about the aux output, no rush. If you need tech questions answered about your unit that you cant find in the manual, then member duaneb55 on this forum would be the go to guy since he has a good deal of experience on these models.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:It does say 7K @ 3700 rpm and 60 Hz. Except it says 7KVA, is that the same way to say 7KW? Would the aux output on this be more than my other generator - it is a 5600 KW Craftsman. If so, I could sell the Craftsman on Craigslist to get some of my cash back.

Reply:That setup does look good! I just got a little wagon tonight to put the welder on. When I get it setup, I will post some pics. I'll be happy if it ends up anywhere near as good as your setup.
Reply:DuaneB - Where would I find the serial number? Do I need to remove a cover somewhere? Here are pics of the new wagon. I had an old little cart sitting out in the tree line from when we bought the place. I really would've liked to use that, but the wheels and hubs were just too rusted out and I could buy new cheaper than buying an axle assembly, wheels, and tires.I picked this up at Tractor Supply for $109 last night. Says it's a 1200 pound capacity, so I hope it holds up.The last pic shows how the sides fold down and it can become a flat bed if I need to. Attached Images
Reply:KVA and KW are essentially the same thing as far as we are concerend. A watt is a volt times an amp, it's a measure of power. A VA is a volt times an amp but does not necessarily represent the power output of the machine. KW are the useable power the machine puts out. KVA is the sum of the KW out and the KVAR or volt amps reactive in to the generator. The ratio of the two is the power factor. The power factor depends on the load. Inductive loads like AC motors lower the power factor so you have less KW available to use. So if you're running at a pretty average .8 PF, your max KW output is only 8/10ths of the machine's rated KVA output.
Reply:That TSC wagon worked out pretty slick. Even have room for accessories like a grinder, chipping hammer, wire brush, gloves, rod holders, hood, etc.SN should be stamped into the faceplate. Being black it may be hard to see and is typically at the bottom but you may find it under the output specs in the upper left corner. If you don't find it on the faceplate and it hasn't been removed or fallen off, Miller also installed a stick-on SN tag inside the unit and usually on the back of the front panel.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Originally Posted by duaneb55Mike! That welder yard trailer looks great. When did you sneak that in?this is a weird request, but can one of you guys pop the cover and take a pic of the generating gear inside the unit? I am curious if the AC and the welding current come from the same unit.. multiple windings? I have heard some machine power welders use a modified HO automotive alternator from an ambulance or firetruck ( 200+ amp rating vs typical 120 amp car alternator)
Reply:I assure you these aren't a high output automotive alternator coupled to an engine - although that's been done many a time. No, these are multiple wound stators with seperate weld, power and exciter voltage windings along with all the controls and components to make them the quality machines they are.To get an idea of how they're made you can check out the manual for them such as this one http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o420l_mil.pdf for the subject unit of this thread.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
