It's about time I posted up a few pics of some pipe welds of mine.Pipe is 3" sch. 40, A106 carbon steel. 6010 bead(root) and hotpass, 7018 cap. Reply:Blurry, but the middle pics sure look nice! The first pic looks good too, but, a little hard to tell just HOW nice the welds are. The colors show a very pretty bluing on them, I wish the pics were clearer!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:lovely piece of root work banshee,i personally would weave a cap over the top of that cap of yours,but thats just for look,you know whats required and thats what you have delivered,great job.pipefitter
Reply:I have a dumb question. What is the ground flat spot on the finished weld? It also looks like there is a center punch mark on it.I've seen them out in the field but never thought to ask till I seen it on your pics.

Reply:if its three passes then probably not.a couple of lads i work with file the finish also,even 6013 and tig,to check for porosity. pipefitter |
