To be honest and upfront, there was no welding in this project. But since it was metalworking I took the liberty.I had to change my starter on my chevy truck and since the old one was a peak performance high torque starter and the replacement was a factory style NEW starter, the part I made was not interchangeable. Since I had to make a new part I figured I would document it for you guys that have Chevy starters as this quick fix is worth it's weight in gold. A little background first: Chevy starters are famous for gettting heatsoaked and the solenoid gets stuck and refuses to engage. Also, the circuitry makes the current travel from the battery to the fuse box, to the ignition switch and then down to the S terminal on the starter solenoid. Can you say voltage drop?Ok, so all I did was jumper the battery terminal on the starter to the S terminal on the starter and then ran a battery cable from the starter to a Ford style solenoid mounted on the inside fender for ease. Then instead of running the wire from the ignition switch to the starter, you run it to the new Ford solenoid. Results in a  highly responsive starter that works every time. Tested, tried and trued. Anyone else done this one?Ok, I used 16ga sheetmetal, a hole punch, a pair of snips, and a hammer to make this and it is so crude. I really should have taken the time to bend it up rather than hammer it into shape. Reply:And the rest of the photos. Note, the solenoid is connected to the battery, the other side of the solenoid is missing the battery cable that goes down to the starter. I took the picture before I was finished. No points for being ugly I guess. But 10 points for functionality if I do have to give them to me myself!!!The only bad part is that now my truck has a Ford part on it.Last edited by Joker11; 10-14-2007 at 02:26 AM.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:That little trick helps alot. I've done something like that myself several time.Last edited by tresi; 10-14-2007 at 11:45 AM.
Reply:Doesn't matter that its got a ford part. Its still a Chevy, you'll never get rid of that fact
Reply:It'll surely go slower with a Ford part on it though. But at least it will start.MmmmmmmmmmmmBeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGooooooooooo  oodddd!!!!
