I created a new company logo today and was hoping for some feedback.  I tried to make it as simple as possible for printing purposes.
Reply:Slick, I like the font too...but my first impression was that the dog looks it's taking a dump.Sorry, but that's what I saw. There are no small projects

Reply:Edited the neck a bit in this one.
Reply:I thought the same thing when first viewed. Initial thoughts should be considered when making a crucial design, such as a business image that may last the length of your business. How about something like this: http://images.jupiterimages.com/comm...1/22194182.jpgJohn -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Microzone, I will be using a side profile, it's the best way to use the least amount of lines to define the dog.
Reply:How about this?
Reply:Well, it definately gets your attention and is funny.  A good way to make customer remember you.edit: Why not just put the head only at the right side of the text logo? So it looks like it's moving forward.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:I agree with whats been said so far.I would putthe lettering in a large head only. Just a thought. But that look like a dog taking a dump, that was my first thought also. SorryBrettBrett B & B Fabrication and Welding Inc.Spalding, MI.
Reply:Its those lines/curves along the dog's back and along the letter "G" area that need to be refined. That posture only reminds people of one thing. Perhaps add a upper right-hand corner to your logo but keep everything else. Tail is a bit large too.How about this?Last edited by yellow; 10-24-2007 at 06:34 PM.

Reply:Now he looks constipated.
Reply:my first impression wasn't that the dog was taking a dump but humping something, personally i would make it the dog taking a dump, but that's why i can't be in charge of things like this.  anyway if you shift the dog to the other side of the writing it doesn't leave anything to the imagination. course that makes the tail difficult to incorporate into the logo.  i definitely like how the text is slightly faded.
Reply:I toned the tail down a bit.
Reply:Well...now he looks like a wolf and howling. If it's white DOG welding, then the dog is humping the lettering. Why not have the dog lay down and contain the letters within the dog? Marketing is tough...no? John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:I dunno WB.  I think you'd better go back to the drawing board with this design.  I agree with most the guys here about the crapping thing.  Sorry, 1st impression.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:ACTUALLY, I've owned almost every breed of dog. One of my ex's was an animal trainer and owned quite a few for different work. Yes, dogs howl, yes wolves are dogs...BUT that looks like a wolf. Try it and see. You'll have people asking you ALL THE TIME,  "why is your business white dog welding, that looks like a wolf?" Customers are ridiculous. Been there, done that.  It's your business but you did ask for advice. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:And saying "That's a wolf, you said dog" is like if I named my company "Crustacean Welding" and put a picture of a Crab on my logo.  Would you chime in and say "That's a crab!  I know they are the same, but people will get confused!!!"?
Reply:I do like the howling dog better and I say make it any way you like it.  Although, I agree with some who said that you don't want to change it too soon (or at all) because people will think you HAD to change it to avoid creditors or p***ed off customers.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:Rick, yes I understand what you mean but I haven't put this logo into production.I started the logo design today.  It hasn't gone to print yet.  Once I settle on a final design it will get sent to the print shop and the truck decals and business cards will be made.So as of now I can change it as much as I want since no customers have seen it (except any potential customers here).Superimposed on my work truck:
Reply:Looks pretty good on the white truck.  I think that I'd scale it down an inch or two though.  Maybe leave the lettering that large and just scale the dog back for a better fit.  Yeah, I think thats it, the dog is too big and overpowering the nice lettering.  Proper proportions can make a big difference.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:Here we go, smaller dog.    Hopefully I get some good feedback soon, I really like this design but am starting to think that I have to scratch it and start over on a new one
Reply:welder boy, what about using just the top part of the dog and putting it in the center on top of the lettering.

Reply:Welderboy - I like the update you made where the dog is howling now.  I think the thing about the original design that made him look like he was poopin' was the arched back.  When you straightened that out a bit, it took that whole impression away from me.  Looking good.  That's a very original and creative design.
Reply:it would need cleaned up a bit, but it gets the idea across, without the poo, constipation (lack of poo), or humping (nothing to do with poo hopefully).Later,Andy
Reply:I like it. I'd find a way to put your phone number on the truck logo if you could.
Reply:Originally Posted by WelderBoyAre you guys that obsessed with things humping other things that you can't let that one go?
Reply:aczeller, thanks but that's really not what I am looking to do with this.  I had a vision and that is what I am trying to putting into ink.

Reply:i wish you luck with whatever design you go with. i appreciate you acknowledging my idea. jsut out of curiosity, what made you decide to name it "White Dog Welding?". i don't know mcuh about you (if you have white dog, or if that's a nick-name, etc.) and am just wondering what it means, if anything. good luck.Later,Andy

Reply:Any opinions about this one?  I like the howling dog better, but this is just another trial.  There will be many before print.
Reply:ahhhhhh... gotcha... pretty dog. i miss mine. pure bred golden retriever. best dog ever... but then again, all our dogs are the best, according to each of us. he he he.later,Andy
Reply:i like it, but it almost seems a little too "cartoonish". your dog seems a littel too basic. i would either "toughen it up" with thicker lines and fewer details, or else make it more realistic and detailed. other than that, put the rear legs behind the box (so it doesn't interefere with the text) and i think you're good to go.later,AndyP.S. what is the primary welding that you do? you may want to incorporate something about it into the logo? just a thought. also, you may want to center the dog over the text and scale it down. the text should be your central focus point, i would believe.Last edited by aczeller; 10-24-2007 at 11:25 PM.
Reply:Your logo is  a creative idea.  I'm a 32 year signman.  For outdoor signage, I always like to keep the copy bold and clear (easy to read).  The more legible copy is, the farther it will read.  A sign should contain as few words as possible.  The name & product.  Logos are ok, they just mean more to you.  Keep the logos on your business card & letterheads.  On the trucks & building signage, keep the copy solid (no holes), and clean.  Let your name & product take up the most space & the logo secondary.  A thought on the logo, use the head of the dog first before the name or a head above the name.  Fill the copy area up, leave off busy lines.  A phone # below the copy is good.  Use the tailgate too!  The howler looks like a wolf or coyote.  Thats my 2 cents.  Last edited by huntindog; 10-25-2007 at 12:45 AM.
Reply:I like the dog drawing that includes the hind legs. Like the real picture of your dog that you showed us. Maybe you can see what the howling one would look like by adding it's stomach and hind legs, kinda like it's sitting there while howling. Maybe that would take peoples mind away from the dumping/humping thing???
Reply:aczeller--had a good designIf you turned him around and it looked like the dog was coming down over the sign.  I'm sorry but the dog does look like he is humping or dumping
Reply:Originally Posted by WelderBoyI will.  This logo will be for everything so I don't want the number in it.  The truck graphics will get a phone # but I felt no need to post it on a forum of people around the world that aren't customers.  For reasons of prank calls and such.
Reply:Huntingdog brought up some good points. Many times when I have to find a business they have tried so hard to do something creative or different that they end up with a sign that you can't read while driving through traffic. On a truck they might only see it for a second. That's 1 reason I like your idea, simple, to the point and stands out.

Reply:The smaller dog looks better.  IMHO, I didn't like the full dog jumping over the sign.  I'm sure you'll figure out what makes you happy.  My experience with graphics and design is less minds are better. Opiions are like a**holes, everyone's got one and most of them stink.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
