I have a new position at work. I went for operator to maintenance at the boiler plant I work in. This means less shift work and more normal hours of work most of the time. Now the hard part is to set myself up the way I want. We don't have a lot of room in the plant and it can be very hot at times, so I do most of my welding and cutting outside.  I needed a scrap metal bin to clean up the crap laying around so I got an old forklift mount bottom and a garbage tilt can. I cut them down and welded them together the way I wanted. I them added some metal to the sides of the box to make a little work bench areas on each side. after doing this I built a rack to set inside the box for welding and cutting on. It's not much but it sure was cheap and easy, and makes for a good work table. and the best part is all the slag and scrap falls in the box for easy clean up. When it get full I lift the rack of and get the forklift driver to dump it for me. Cool eh!Last edited by jamlit; 10-28-2007 at 04:23 PM.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Great idea. Now if it was me, I'd spend half my time diving in there for whatever it was I dropped for the umpteenth time.

Reply:very interesintg idea. i wish i had a justifiable reason and/or equipment to allow me to use it. i really like the removable slats idea also. one piece of advice from a very novice welder-wannabe, i woudl put more slats in there, just to close up the space between the metal planks. i also think that i'd be dropping in quite a few of the "good" pieces. if you were to build a few quick brakets to slide the planks into, you could also adjsut the slats (possibly) so they run diagonal and make it a more modular system. this woudl open up a few extra jigging options when you need them.just an idea.looks very functional tho...later,Andy

Reply:That's a great welding table.  Sometimes improvisation leads to inovation.  You could build an adjustable height inside rack for a fire box and it would double for one hell of a BBQ for company parties.  Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:Why don't you cut a door out of one side.....Better than Dumpster Diving.. And easier to clean out.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thats a fairly large boilerLarge physically.....relatively, large by lbs/hr.....nope.....small. Consider a decent sized power plant of 750MW. That uses a boiler of about 5MMlbs/hr, or 5 million.Last edited by rat4spd; 10-29-2007 at 08:42 PM.
