Ok so I borrowed a Licoln Pro Mig 140 to do some welding. I am welding some 3/4 inch emt conduit and some 20 gauge steel for a duck blind on my jon boat. The welder has .030 mig wire in it. I turned the gas on, and tried to weld. The wire will come out and melt but after it cools down i can break it off with my hands, I tried every combination of heat and wire speed, but the steel or the conduit will never melt, only the wire will melt and then you can break it off. If yall have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks in advance
Reply:Hey Jim,Your thread title indicates you will not have any success until you get a grasp on the wonderful art of welding. You should have taken a couple small pieces of what you want to weld to the fellow you borrowed the welder from & let him show you a few things. Is the conduit galvanized? If so, it needs to be ground off or use a flux-core wire. Is the metal clean? You gotta do some homework before attempting a project that may result in an injury......DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab.
