Got me my first little pipe welding project for after work. It's been 15 years since I worked as a welder, and Iv'e missed it since. I'll post pictures later when I have more completed. Not quite like riding a bike. I'm a little shaky. Attached Images
Reply:Not bad at all.  You must have had a few years in before you quit welding.  Every so often I have to take a test that I haven't for years and surprise myself on how it came out.  It's just the little things that you pick up along the way that gets your weld looking great.  I have to fumble around a little before I can remember half of them.-MikeCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Hey jtrapper,Those look like some damn good welds for a 15 year hiatus from striking an arc. I'd say there are no cobwebs in your technique and as Brainfarth indicated, you must have burned some serious rod in your heyday. Reply:Nope, you ain't lost your touch !! Welcome back to the wonderful world of welding.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:Thanks for all the kudos. And yes once upon a time I did burn a lot of rod. It's funny how you just can't shake the welding bug. Tomorrow I need to go re-measure the pipe I'm replacing, and check the two hole alignment on the existing pump and water supply. I feel like a kid at christmas, can't wait get into the rest of it. The completed project will consist of a 6" sch 40 butt weld tee, 6"x 4" reducer, 2-6" slip flg.'s, and one 4" slip flg.
Reply:The smell of rods burning is addictive.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Wow, that was fun, and I get paid for it too And no I didn't show any pictures of the root pass on the inside, had some incomplete fusion here and there, so I just tig welded it from the inside. It will outlast me I'm sure. And also notice the Florida front yard turkeys we have down here. Have 9 of them going back and forth every day now. Attached Images

Reply:Welcome back!  I took 5 semester classes exclusively in stick welding, and at the end of it still felt I was horrible.  Consistency is my problem, and from what my instructor said everyone has the same one.  Monday my beads looked like a 15 year veteran pro did it, and Wednesday it looked worse than my very first pass ever.  Strange.  Your bead looks pretty darn good though, keep it up!Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!
Reply:I'd be lucky to walk away from welding for a week and have my stuff look like that.  Fantastic job!
Reply:I spent a good amount of time stick welding once upon a time. Hopefully I can get some more projects to keep my hand it. It sure gets in your blood. My instructor back in 1980 told me, that if you want to get good you got a burn a million rods. Just like if you want to get good at golf you got to hit a million balls. So I just stuck with the welding rods
Reply:We'll have to dub you the Tiger Woods of stick.
