I had these dropped off to weld the steel dividers in the cast housings.First, grind off the bark. NOTICE the sparks from cast iron. They only travel about a foot. Now some preheat to about 400* F using an infrared thermometer. Here is the final productand a close up of the cast welds.NI55, 100 amps arc force all the way up.Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:And?Way to go Dave!Nice demo....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:good work... but what are they for? look pretty heavy-dutyLater,Andy
Reply:They are covers for A heat exchanger of some kind. The dividers go between the tubes. He said if it works he will order the castings like that.He had marks and gave me 1/16" to work with. They are a little warped even though I alternated sides and worked from the center out. I think if I preheated the dividers too, it would help keep em straight. So I guess I made a prototype.Today we unloaded 2 small skids of pipe and flanges. 80 to 100 of each. I have to bid the job. You will see em.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. |
