I'm a newbie hobbyist welder and would like recommendations for a book on fabrication. I want answers to questions like "How do you cut two pieces of (possibly different diameter) pipe to join them at an angle greater than 90 degrees?" or "How do you cut a T-shaped beam to join it to the midpoint of another one?" Are these things just slowly ground away and trial fitted until it's "good enough?"One thread mentioned Welding Fabrication and Repair. Thread 2949 mentioned a book that showed how to calculate pipe offsets mathematically, but didn't mention a title.Any suggestions? Thanks for your thoughts and advice.-Kevin
Reply:Its called pipe fabricators book. Its navy blue and can probably be purchased online or at local welding supply also the pipe fitters blue book is a nice layout book. If I'm not mistaken they are published by Lee and written by a man with the last name of Graves

Are there others that cover other topics in addition to pipes? Thanks, again, for your suggestions.-Kevin
Reply:I never buy information. Information is free. Everything in those books can be readily found online. I have complete welding manuals from every branch of the military and more I found on this link:http://www.metalwebnews.com/ed.html
Reply:Didn't you just pay for welding school? Ain't that information? People put hard work in to creating books, records ,etc. I don't mind paying for information, music, welding supplies etc. Its how you can keep mom and pops from shutting doors. I'm just saying

Reply:I carry the fabricators book, the pipefitters blue book and the black welders handbook in my glovebox of my rig. Have used all three quite a bit on different layouts of dummylegs, branches, and takeoff info. They're small, somewhat rugged and fit in toolbox or glovebox very easily. Try doing that with printouts in the field with the west texas wind blowing. Those printouts will end up as confetti

Reply:These are PDFs which you can print out in book form easily for cheap. I plan on printing all these out before they disappear. Dues are like 30 a month so I guess you're right but the program is paid for via a grant.
