brand new dayton welder 250 amp help

lordduster888  Solderer   Join Date: Oct 2010Posts: 1   hello there,new here and welding world,,, : } --------------------------------------------------------------------------------hello,my name is JASON i leave in so cal,a week ago i had no idea of welding types,arc,mig,tig just to named the most know and by some welders,so im really fresh to the welding world,and i will tried to learn from your mistakes,and success to some of you my question may sound dumb for your knowledge,i just bought my first welder,four days ago bought a brand new yes brand new,bought for $100 everything was there, except cord plug, paper work, instructions,service manuals,what u guys think of this deal,DAYTON 250 AMP AC/DC ARC WELDERMODEL # 3Z546AMODEL # 110-087-927SERIAL # HO35285DATE CODE 05/20/96i donno anything about this welder or any welder lol,i would like to get a manual,i dont have 220v in my garage can this machine work with 120v,anyone had this welder in the past or now why is hard to find info on this welder, is it near as good as a lincoln 225,what kind of upgrades shoult i think about doin in the future.i will tried to go to schoolin the meantime i want to learn what i can from u guys,i also love cars,american muscle cars of course,i cant think of anything maybe cuz its 1am,i hope to make frieds here,please reply,need manual copies,any info,thank you for your time reading this post,JASON

Reply:norite u r right thats the one thx ,i want to post some pics but im still learning how to use this forum,and i made a mess on my post,before i bought this machine i was looking to get a lincoln ac225,or maybe a lilcoln ac/dc225 but cost more money$$$,i know they are great welders,so the question is:well i guess i need to get 220v to my garage then (sad) well, is the dayton 250 amp near as good as a lincoln 225?    will it last?   i take good care of my tools!!, anyone with experienced on this welder?  why its hard to find anything on this welder,i review just about anything before i buy it didnt see anything on this but i still when for it wasnt gonna past this deal,again anyone using this machine?great web,thx in advance for ur replyes JASON
Reply:Welcome to the insanity of welding. Like desertride33 said, grab some rod and go.  SMAW isn't the simplest welding disipline to learn but it's not rocket science either.  If you have access to a good welding school at a local college it would be worth your time to attend. Or, if you can, get with someone who is very familiar with stick welding and pick their brain. Have them show you how it's done. Good luck and have fun.Edit; Make the learning process FUN...do not get frustrated and start throwing stuff.
