T/A 185 - Hey Aaron

Aaron, talk me out of this or into this. My T/A 185 is just sitting there in the shop hardly getting used and I'm using the MM175 for most stuff.  What I really need is a MM210 for capacity sake etc.Do you regret dumping your tig for the 251?  I'm thinking it's time to sell the tig and reinvest some of the money in a 210, then sell the 175 and take that money, plus the difference from the 185 to 210 and just use it for more material and other shop needs.thoughts/regrets?

Reply:Regret it?  Are you joking?Obviously you have never used a MM251.   I have access to the SW250's we have at work, so any TIG work I just take to work.  But honestly, that has happened only once since I traded.  Now, I used to take all my heavy MIG stuff to work, which was a pain in the (you get the picture), and was occuring about every other week.  I use my MM251 at least weekly, usually more.  My T/A sat in the shop for weeks untouched.I'd do it again in a second.Now, in all honestly, I would still like to have a TIG, but I'll probably just get a 150A DC-only machine.  First up is the plasma cutter, tho.
Reply:Thanks Aaron, that's kind of what I figured.  I'd love to keep the tig, but mine ends up doing the same thing, just sitting there in the corner.I think I'll settle for a 210 with spool gun though, I don't know if I need the capacity of the 251.  Is there any difference in handling between the 210 and 251?  Or is it just capacity? Reply:I'd have to say yes, but it's only a guess, as I've never used a MM210.  I'm saying this because the MM210 is a tapped machine, and the MM251 is an infinite adjustment machine.The MM210 w/ spoolgun costs about the same as the MM251.  The 251 gives you more top end, and more duty cycle, but probably not worth the extra $$ for most users.I use a lot of heavy steel, and I had also used a MM251 and was quite impressed.  When the opportunity presented itself to get a 251, I jumped, and I haven't looked back.
