Do you happen to know how much the heaters you listed cost to run?  I know there are alot of variables, but any kind of idea, $100, $1000.  As I said, the shop will be around 2000 sq ft and 12 foot roof and insulated.  Again, any idea would be great.  I really like the idea of the 2 small ones. Thanks,Dave
Reply:Hey Dave! I have the 28,000 BTU unit. So far I've only had to use a single 20 lb. propane tank (grill bottle). With my other side work, I've only been out in my shop for 2 - 3 days every week and I'm going on a month so far. Take into consideration this has only been 4 hours at most per day.So, I'm still on the same bottle and it has been nearly a month. I would say with your building and decent insulation a 100 lb. bottle should last you a easily month or longer. The 100 lb. bottle fills here at $53 with tax. If you have NG, all the better.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Thank you.  I know it is a real generalized question. My "shop" is a garage/shop so it will not be heated all the time, just whenever.  Do you think NG is cheaper than propane and will it burn in the heater?  I might even buy 4 of the smaller ones so it will heat up faster.  I'm not looking to have it hot in there, just to get the chill off fast, dont want to have to wait all day for it to warm up.Thanks,DavePS. I hope you dont mind the questions, but I think that is all of them.
Reply:Well, I live out in the country, so I don't have access to Natural Gas. If you live near the city I think it is cheaper than going out and buying Propane. I think Propane is at $2.00 per gallon? My 100 lb. bottle takes about 25 gallons...I'm not sure if that is correct. I'm not too familiar with the Propane gallon to pound conversion. I just know that when they fill it, the fill meter shows about 25 gallons pumped. So, it costs me $53 and change to fill my 100 lb. for my water heater. The BBQ costs me about 10 or 12 dollars. For a month of heating VERY cheap. Those Pro-Com heaters come in Natural Gas or Propane. Mine takes about 5 minutes for it to go from 30 to 60 degrees on setting 1. The settings go from 1 to 5 so that is it's lowest setting. My small shop is decently insulated, so I think it works well. One other note - to help distribute the heat better, I have a fan just above mine but perpindicular to how the heat rises. In turn, it circulates the air around my little shop - real decent!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Thanks for all the info, but I didn't see how big your shop is. Where is your shop located, mine will be in the country, Shelbyville,TN or there about.Dave
Reply:Out here, price per btu-wise, natural gas is about half that of propane. I'd venture to say that's going to relatively be the case in any area where both are available.
Reply:Up in NY. My small shop, where I do most of the welding and fabrication, is 24x24. Attached to that is a 32x40 but is seperated by a wall and a door, so I can heat them seperately if needed. My buildings kinda' look like this but reversed - the small building car door opens into the big building. I don't have a pic on this laptop, so this will have to do. Of course, my big attached building isn't that big. That one looks to be 40 x60 or 50 x80-ish. It gives you the general idea of how they are attached.
