Hello everybody. My name is Patrick and im (what i would consider) a new welder/fabricator.I have been doing this for about 3-4 years...3 of those years were precision metal working and welding in high school. The last year has been my job for the most part. I work at a high pressure cylinder restoration plant and do repairs to stuff that comes in.My hobby/passion is racing and cars...to be more specific racing my truck. I have a 2004 Lightning with a couple of things done. I friend of mine that has a Lightning as well has asked me to install a Airride suspension system on his truck and maybe his F250 as well. For the most part it would be welding the C-notch in and some other little odds and ends. Here is the kit he boughthttp://www.ridetech.com/store/suspen...0-level-3.htmlIve never done anything automotive welding related and i want some good info on what to do, equipment, and everything ill need to know to do this properly.Im also wanting to make a custom set of traction bars but ill get around to that later
Reply:what does your friend have?I mean you gotta have a couple of 4 1/2 grinders,(I have one for every type of grinder wheel their cheap) cutoff saw, a good die grinder or two, a magnetic level, maybe a protrator, plumb, maybe a datm gauge if you are doing frames, something good for marking with cheapest is soapstone, bevel gauge, clamps vise grips......

Reply:Hey Patrick,+1 with weldbeads' response. The experienced fellows here will drill you regarding your level of welding & your comprehension of the entire gamut of issues with any kind of frame welding. Don't hesitate to provide relevant data with your equipment & what/how you plan to engage each project. Most of we 'ol timers see the youngsters/newbies wanting to do projects without a full understanding of issues that can lead to REAL NIGHTMARES if your prep & design implementation is not done with extensive homework. Welding can be quite easy & solid joint bonding very structurally safe if you have the knowledge & experience. You can't weld rusty metal as has been posted here many times & expect a safe & sound application that can/will lead to personal liability & definitely major headaches for you. Don't hesitate to provide all the information requested by the members, be honest with your abilities/equipment/conditions of a project. Just simply remember that your work, knowledge, & integrity will be the nature of your character & honor. Good work always succeeds..... crappy work leads to disaster.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab.
