I made 2 different transmission stands for working on Chryslerr 727's. They sit on a flat work bench and hold the trans upside down and still while you work on it. Otherwise they like to roll around. The first was out of necessity...The second was refined and downsized after trial and error...Miller 252 Mig WelderMiller Spoolmatic 15AMiller Econotig TIG/ARC WelderMiller Spectrum 375 Extreme Plasma Cutter
Reply:got any pictures of it in use?
Reply:Simple yet practical.. I've built similar stands for complete spare engines that go in the trailer..But I started with shopping carrage bottoms so they have wheels..Maybe you could mass produce these for spare trannys also..Nice job.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The latest version has two bolt hole locations on the front tabs, it will fit a big block or small block bell housing. The rear "loop" is set back so it only contacts the main housing, allowing you to remove the tail stock so you can completely disassemble the trans. The pan gasket surface is level when the trans is on the bench. This means that the shaft is also level. I normally set the stand on a large rectangular metal pan while working on it (drip pan).Miller 252 Mig WelderMiller Spoolmatic 15AMiller Econotig TIG/ARC WelderMiller Spectrum 375 Extreme Plasma Cutter
Reply:thats pretty cool. i should build one for big block c-6 and aods
Reply:Thanks, I don't know how it would fit on a manual Mopar trans. I have a GM trans laying around I was going to to try it on. May have to add more hole locations on the front tabs or just use them in different combinations. Simple enough to make with a torch and a welder. I TIG welded it (I was practicing TIG while I did it).I could add wheels to it pretty easily for storing in the trailer. I have a simpler shop dolly for trans that is just 1.5 x 1.5 angle welded into a square with 4 full swivel wheels on the corners. It doesnt bolt to the trans, just sits there so not so good for trailering spares.Miller 252 Mig WelderMiller Spoolmatic 15AMiller Econotig TIG/ARC WelderMiller Spectrum 375 Extreme Plasma Cutter
Reply:Nice one. I really admire you guys (and gals) who take the time to build a labor-saving convenience like that.Do you tip it, or clamp it to a bench or something; so that the pump end is up when loading the gear train?

The orange car is mine, that picture was in Car Craft Magazine in the "This guy's garage" segment. It is epoxy on the floor, not the paint, the stuff you mix and it's bad for you!!!!
