This is a smoker I put together from an old water heater tank.  Go easy on the welds, I'm still pretty new to this. I still need to add some wheels and seal up the doors, but it's pretty much done.  Too bad it just snowed 10 inches the past few days.  Hopefully I won't have to wait until spring to try it out.  Smoker Gallery
Reply:WOW!, I sure enjoyed that picture show. Makes me want to go out to the garage and build something. Just shows what a person can do if they put their mind to it. Sure is a thing of beauty!
Reply:That looks cool. I would build one but i don't have a use or space for one  how do you like that bender? Is a 90* bend the most you can do?
Reply:Nice "recycling" job! Ok..Whats going in it first.... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:nice how many gallon waterheater tank was that?
Reply:Gonna have wheels? and a handle to move it with?
Reply:Thanks guys! The bender will go a little past 90, but not much. I got it used, but I think it originally came from harbor freight? The first thing that will be done in there will be a couple racks of ribs.  Nothing quite as tasty as ribs after watching the fire and sucking down beers for a couple hours! I never thought to look beforehand at how large the tank was, but the measurements I just took peg it at a 40 gallon.  If I were to do it again, I would probably have opted for a larger diameter tank.  A rack of ribs won't quite fit front to back, but you could still fit a LOT of ribs in it as is.It's going to have wheels eventually.  I haven't been able to find the right kind yet. Just caster wheels which wouldn't be so great to pull over the lawn.

Reply:Nice looking pit,  But,  aren't all waterheater internal tanks lined with glass?  I know in HS shop we had to burn off the glass before cooking in it.
Reply:This one is lined with some sort of epoxy/enamel material.  I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I'm going to have someone sandblast it off before I cook food in it.Last edited by Reconfigure; 12-05-2007 at 11:56 AM.
Reply:Cool idea. Nice build. Great slide show. Thanks for posting!Question.....I used a metal guide for cutting with my plasma torch and the flame kept arcing onto the guide instead of shooting straight down. Did you have that kind of problem at all?Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I didn't have that problem.  I have a cutmaster 38 and there's a standoff guide that only touches the thermoplastic part of the torch tip, so it's electrically separate.  I ran that guide along the metal strip to make the cut.  Here's a picture of it.http://gtswelds.com/gtsweldsstore/detail.aspx?ID=916
Reply:Well, hmm, maybe it's just that I am retarded.I have the cutmaster 101 and it came with the same standoff guide you have.I will try it again and see what I am doing wrong. I have used it very little so far and my familiarity with it isn't so great yet.At any rate, great post from you on the project!!!Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Odd.  I know the guy at the LWS mentioned that it could arc over if you were dragging the cup.  I've never experienced that either.  Doesn't the Cutmaster 101 come with the SL100 torch?  The 38 comes with an SL60.  I think the standard tip on the SL60 is a drag cup, and the SL100 is a standoff tip.  Then again I could be way off.
