Reply:It's a hell of a project. If you were taking a course in machining, and needed a thesis project, it is great. As for practicality in building it yourself???? I got my 2" die for $300 shipped to me, with the follower included. He has more than that tied up in machine time and steel. Also, his follower is the most important part of the setup, not the inner die (Big round die) itself. He has a problem with his follower. It is machined from one solid part. And the track on the follower die will gall up over time. On JDsquared, or JMR, the follower has removable inserts. I use Delrin followers for alum. and SS. To machine out the 11 dies I have for my bender, you would spend probably $8000-10,000 in shop time and materials. All in all, I am at about $3000. Mine is manual, and I can buy the kit to convert it for about $800.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
