my first big project with my new welding setup is going to be a new 3 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust for my truck. right now i am practicing on a piece of exhaust pipe i have, its somewhat difficult. trying to make it around the outside is a pain, i go about 1-1 1/2" and have to stop because i can't angle the gun correctly.does anyone have any tips to make this easier ?i also practiced on some flat scrap i had. went pretty well/easy.great site you guys have here glad i found it.97 S10 excab, VORTECH supercharger, fmic.a broken down 13.8 @ 97Lincoln SP135 PLUS
Reply:You probably wont be able to go all the way around without stopping, not that this has a lot to do with anything but I did 2 this week, up in the frame. About 1/3 of it with a mirror and part of it looking thru a frame hole. One of them had a gap that the fitter for some reason left. I can weld fair with a mirror, but sheet metal is harder,, hawww.urkafarms.com
Reply:the pipe isn't going to be on the truck for final welding. i'm going to tack it in the truck, then remove it for finishing.i have an idea for a jig that, if it works, will allow me to make one nice(hopefully) weld all the way around.97 S10 excab, VORTECH supercharger, fmic.a broken down 13.8 @ 97Lincoln SP135 PLUS |
