Well for those that seen my post on ram repairs and sawdust chain, here is the ash part of the system. I am building a complete new ash chain using some of the old chain from the sawdust chain. The sawdust chain has two chains with flights mount in the middle. Both the left and right chain on the sawdust system need to be the same length. The as chain on the other hand is a single chain with the flight welded on the sides and the chain. This makes it a great place to use the used chain. First I had to cut up a bunch of 1 inch and 2 inch flat bar and weld them together to make the flight. Here are the flights. Now the jig I made up to line up the flight on the chain. I use a 110 mig to tack the flight on.Tool to help align the chain to the flight. After all the flights were tacked on, I hit them with the stick welder. I used 7018 DC rod at 140 amps. Here is the chain with all the flights welded on.More to come. Sorry for the picture quality as it is a cheap camera, I need a new one for workLast edited by jamlit; 01-04-2008 at 02:15 PM.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:hey theres a familiar sight, i worked on chain like that quite a bit at the saw mill. i made a chain clamp to work on chains and posted the pic on here some time ago. often times they would ask me to go weld flights onto chain because the chain would snag up on something or a bering would go on one end or the other and bend or break the flights off, id go with some short stubs of angle iron and weld them on solid. belive it or not i miss lugging that stuff around sometimes.  used come-alongs to pull the ends of the chain together when they broke, or changing broken links.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
