Hi all.....new to the forum. I am seeking information in regards to welding in general. I purchased a Hobart 210 which should be here sometime this week. I want to know best practices and good welding techniques before I begin. I will also need to purchase a plasma cutter thus which manufacture would folks recommend? I have read a lot of good things about the Hypertherm 45....which I am leaning towards. BTW...the project that has prompted the new equipment is a frame off restoration of a CJ7.....frame is in need of work. Thanks!!Chris
Reply:IMHO there is no better Plasma cutter than Hypertherm.  I have a PM 1000 G3 and it is da shiznitz.  As  far as frame work as a new welder, that is something that should be left to a competent, trained and experienced welder.  I have been doing this a few years now, but frame repair on something potentially capable of going 70 MPH on a highway is better left to the guys who know and can do a safe and structureally sound weld 100% of the time.  Thats something better left for the experts, I am good at what I do, but not willing to take a chance on a cold weld or poor penetration on a life support piece of equipment.  You will find that will be a common recomendation, and it is OK to let them use your stuff to do the job if they feel like it is capable, but let them do it for you while you learn.  That way we will get to enjoy you and your company for a long time to come...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Welding a vehicle frame is not a first project, or second, or 30th. Your into the live or die zone. Sorry, just don't.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:I totally agree....that some jobs should be left to the pro's. I do have welding and brazing experience however it's been a while (like over 20 years). Any suggestions on some resources to help me along the process of getting back into it? BTW...I have never used a MIG before thus I am new to the MIG machine. Thanks!!Chris
Reply:Quick question....in regards to the Everlast PowerPlasma 50.....after reading some of the posts.....it appears this may be a good/reasonable machine. Anyone have any opinions on Everlast equipment? Thanks,Chris
Reply:Don't do it (weld your frame). You can buy a replacement frame for a  CJ, this is a better option anyway.Practice your welding on non critical projects where if your weld fails, no one gets hurt.Don't make your first project your last."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:I believe the message about not welding on the frame was delivered from the first poster. How many times do we need to cover the topic? I for one believe once is enough. Can anyone answer my other questions? Such as a good reference on MIG welding and if Everlast equipment is reasonable equipment?

Such as a good reference on MIG welding *****go to Miller's siteand if Everlast equipment is reasonable equipment?
Reply:he never said he was welding the frame, just a frame off resto.  i have done a few and never touched the frame but did lots of body work or the frame areas could be not critical.  my vote is hypertherm and miller by the way.Just some stuff in my shop.
