Hey guys I just wanted to show a pic of the first time I tried TIG welding. I thought I did OK for my first time considering I have never touched a TIG torch ever. Now I just need lots of practice! PS...the metal was not wiped down with any type of cleaner....I picked up some acetone today. John
Reply:Looks pretty good!! It seems as though you have your timing down for the filler rod and are not leaving craters at the end of the weld, kudos. From the rainbow discoloration around a few of the welds it looks as though you may have hurried the puddle a little. You want an even rainbow extending out from your weld in all directions. Keep practicing and good luck!AaronTiggerAaronHTP Invertig 201w/ CK-20 torch and Bernard ChillerHTP MicroCut 300 plasma cutterLincoln R3S-325 w/ TA 17A Wire FeederVictor Super Range II O/A kitClausing/Colchester 13X40 LatheBridgeport 9X42 Mill
Reply:TiggerAaron...thanks for the compliments and advice! I was just happy to get a decent bead. I was quite surprised that I managed to get an OK looking bead the first time doing this. Now i just need to get back out in the garage and practice, practice and practice.John
Reply:JohnV:Very nicely done for first time with the TIG. I am also looking for a TIG, what type is the one you have?
Reply:Its a Thermal Arc 185TSW. So far I really like the machine...though I had only had a few hours of seat time on TIG. If you are interested in this machine I got mine from the link below. Just talk to Bill at AAA welding...he will take care of you and answer all your questions patiently(Great customer service!!)http://www.aaaweldingsupply.comJohn
Reply:John V:Thanks for the information. With so much junk on the market it is hard to know what to settle for. You probably went through this as well. Maybe it is time for the web administrator to help by starting a link for what to look for and what to avoid. Thanks bud, and now you have to make something. hd |
