The new shop is finished. Time to get some more welding equipment. I've been using a HH 175 for the past two years. I was thinking about going to a MM 251. But since I would also like to be able to do stick and tig, I have been looking at the Esab Multi-process welder. It will do everything I would like to do except tig aluminum. If I went with the MM 251 is there a machine that will do the stick and tig at the higher amps that does not cost a fortune? I'm also not familiar with the inverter units. Any suggestions would be appreciated.James
Reply:Scott would be the ESAB man,, actually the all in ones are going to be pricey and you are going to have to add a feeder. I like the idea of seperate units. I would be tempted to keep my 175 also and dedicate it to small wire, nice to not to have to change to go to 023. Personally I have a dedicated use for alum tig, but not for that one thing I could easily get by without it.www.urkafarms.com

Reply:Having priced out a complete Esab 260 with the tig control, inductance control, etc. The powermig 300 is a much better deal. It will run aluminum much better then the esab. It also will do stainless better. Stick is very good on both machines but a edge to the powermig 300All that said, I would probably just get a 251 or better yet for me a esab 250 plus and a maxstar or something like one. If you had the money and wanted the very best mig arc a esab 350 mpi would be very hard to beat by anyones stuff. There are other ways too, like my setup which for me really is better then the all in one box setup.
