For AC stick welding what is the best rod for welding cast iron gate finials to mild steel? The steel is 3/4 inch square tubular steel 1/8th inch thick. The finial has a 3/4 inch square cavity to accept the steel.
Reply:My supplier recomends 7018 or mig for all his cast parts. Parts are often cast steel rather than true cast iron..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:some times i just use mig Attached Images

Reply:you can use a 18/8 stainless rod too.the alloy content lets it remain pretty stretchy even w/ the high carbon in the cast iron.haz will be brittle with any methodlincoln weld pak 100 hdlincoln ranger 225gxt ac/dcoxy/acetylenepuroxcw202 victor fc100harris model 85harrismodel 16oxweld w24roxweld w17
Reply:glue. or er70s mig wire. I use epoxy. Construction adhesive works too> No need for special filler on something so non critical. If it is cold were you are keep your adhesive warm prior to use. On stuff like more critical like casting that might fall off use Nickel rod. |
