Finally had to get this project underway, I'm tired of kneeling down on the concrete to weld anything that won't fit in my "truck wheel" vice. Most of this is built out of iron we had laying around.  The main table top was a chunk of 4"x18" channel iron.  I think it was a base for a pump and engine of some sort, I assume since it had a little tag riveted on saying "Pacific Pumping Co".  It's had many dutys it looked since I spent a good 2 hours cutting and grinding off old misc welds and junk off the top. I started with that, some pieces of angle and sch. 80 pipe.I shortened the channel iron to 4' and did have to buy some 6" flat stock so I could widen it out another foot.  I didn't have any metal straight enough to get that done.A friend of mine gave me an old home made engine dyno stand so I stole the large metal casters off of it.Welded a few receiver tubes on it and built a vice mount that can slide into them.  I also have a large drain grate I'll put a tube on so I can use it for cutting.Still have to get some expanded metal to put on the bottom to make a shelf.  Be a good spot to have my cut off saw and other doo-dads.Jordan
Reply:Excellent way to recycle and build a great table. The receiver hitches are great and I love that vice!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Dayum, that is one heavy duty vice!  I love it!Great job on the table too.  Many features, and the super heavy casters should take the beating they'll get soon.Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC, Millermatic 252 & 30A spoolgun, Thermal Arc 185 TIG, Miller BWESmith Oxy-AcBridgeport 2J , South Bend 42" 9AHusky 7.5 HP 22.3 CFM 80 gal compressor
Reply:Thanks.  That free standing vice has been in my family a long time, I think my grandpa built it.  It's been about the most useful tool we have.
Reply:well done  DON'T STOP NOW:::: go clean the world of unwanted metal
Reply:That's awesome!! Sure is HEAVY duty, you could put anything on that! Nice beads also!
Reply:Nice table. Now I want to see some pictures of the tank cart...What holds the tanks?Me!
Reply:I'm diggin' it. Kool that it's out of metal you had laying around. I like the idea of the reciever tubes for the vice. Nice welds also.

Reply:That what I tell my wife. No metal is junk... it can be used for something. Also a perfect example of the quote "Necessity is the greatest innovator". Great work!______________Clarke 95  Lincoln 135  Lincoln AC 225 ---------I'm an idiot, please talk slowing and simple.
Reply:Nice recycling job.  Care to share what welding equipment and process(s) you used to build it?

Reply:if i'm not mistaken, that vise looks like a post leg vise(also called a blacksmiths vise) with the post cut off, very bad thing to do with those.  they're designed to take heavy hammer blows, the leg transfers the blows to the ground, its possible to shear the jaws off a machinist vise with heavy hammering.   a new post leg vise that size goes for about 700$.  then again it may not be a post leg vise after all if you're grandfather built it.
Reply:Nice table, I see you have an old Forney welder in the corner, does it still work well? I had one until a month or so back when I gave it to my nephew. It was quite a bit different then the one you have. It still worked okay, it was only AC and I got a chance to buy a AC DC machine at a great price so I jumped on it. The old Forney I had didn't seem to want to burn 6011 or 7018 very well but I could burn 6013 and 7014 okay with it.
